Summer Party Trends: How to Create a Taco Bar

As summer draws to a close many of you will be hosting backyard parties for your family and friends. We all know that the classic food for these causal events is delicious Barbeque. But how many backyard BBQs will you be forced to go to this season. Isn’t it time for a different kind of party? One that adds a little spicy to life?  At your next backyard get together, why not serve something different but just as delightful as BBQ?  Give your guests a taco bar!

Sound hard to do? Well its not, or at least it won’t be after you read this!

To have an amazing taco bar, all you need is corn and flour tortillas, 3 types of meat (we suggest beef, chicken, and fish), salsa, guacamole, and maybe a side of rice and beans, and fresh fruit! And don’t forget chips!

Try pre-cooking up some lean steak any way you want. Slice the steak into bite size pieces and set aside. In a pan (with a little oil) saute some onions and garlic. Add a bit of tomato paste (this is a great secret ingredient!) into the pan, stir to brown. Then add the pre-cooked sliced steak and stir together, add salt and pepper to taste. You can do the same thing with baked chicken (you suggest you bake the chicken instead of boil it because sometimes boiled chicken can come out dry).

For great fish tacos be sure to choose a white fish that you can work with (we suggest tilapia, cod, or sea-bass). Cut the fish into small bite sized pieces. In one bowl mix eggs with a little milk and in another bowl put bread crumbs (we also like to add parmesan cheese). Dip the fish into the egg and milk mixture completely coating all pieces. Move the pieces from the egg and milk mixture into the bowl withbread crumbs. Completely coat all pieces with the bread crumbs.

Meanwhile, heat oil in a frying pan on medium to medium-high heat. When the oil is hot, fry the battered fish making sure to flip each piece so both sides brown. 1 inch, square pieces of fish should only take 5-7 minutes to cook through.

Create a fresh and interesting side of summer fruit by mixing together cubed watermelon, diced mint leaves, and jicama!

You and your guests are sure to enjoy this wonderful and fun meal at your next get-together!
